About me

Work and Experience

I'm a software engineer with a passion for building stuff that solves problems. I am currently working for Rhizomer as a full stack developer in the pharmaceutical automation industry.

I have over 10 years experience in the IT system admin industry, recently transitioning to the software developer life. Writing code and seeing ideas transition from a chunk of text on the screen to becoming a fully functioning application, sometimes a piece of art, it's a feeling I can't get enough of.

Hobbies

I love to skate and cook, and hang out with my awesome wife. I have also recently started and enjoy contributing to open source projects, such as create-t3-app and react-ts-form.

Pets

I have two extremely fluffy Ragdoll cats, named Genji and Bean. I also have 2 big fishtanks, one with a few Angelfish and the other with a massive Oscar.

Favourites

  • Food: B-Rex Burger from Byron Burgers in London
  • Drink: Barista made Capuccino
  • Movie: Without A Paddle
  • TV Show: Brooklyn 99
  • Game: World of Warcraft
  • Band: The Amity Affliction
  • Book: The Harry Potter Series

My journey (so far!)

Started journey in IT with a Certificate III in Information Technology

    2010

Straight outta highschool and into a traineeship with Cairns Regional Council, I started my journey in IT with a Certificate III in Information Technology. I was lucky enough to be able to work in a variety of roles, including onsite and remote support for all council locations. I was also invited to continue for an additional 6 months to complete an upgrade of the Office suite to all council workstations and laptops.

Began working for Future Computers as a workshop technician

    2012

Starting off in a workshop performing basic repairs on computers and laptops, I was always bound to end up in a career with a computer in front of me. I enjoyed it immensely and learnt everything I could from the incredibly experienced technicans I worked with.

    Moved back to Australia 🛬

    2017

Back on a plane and picked up my old role with the same Managed Services Provider, Future Computers, but in a more senior role. I quickly moved on to management and delivery of IT projects, rolling out technologies such as Microsoft Azure, Teams Calling, and all flavours of Windows Server.

    Transitioned to Software Development

    2022

After a bunch of self-taught learning in my free time, I decided to take the plunge and transition to a career in software dev, quitting my 9-5, right as the tech layoffs begin - idiot, right?. I started by rebuilding my partner's ecommerce store in Next.js and TailwindCSS, and then a few more projects for friends and family to build my confidence. I was lucky enough to come across a role that was a perfect fit for my skillset and experience with sys admin work, and am now working as a Fullstack Developer for a automation software company in Switzerland.

My Favourite Quote

It's all risky! The minute you were born it got risky. You think trying is risky, wait till they hand you the bill for not trying. If you think investing is risky, wait till you get the tab for not investing. See it's all risky - getting married is risky - having children is risky - going into business is risky - investing your money is risky - it's all risky! I'll tell you how risky life is, you're not gonna get out alive!
